Peshawar History

The heart of the North West Frontier Province, Peshawar is an exciting city in Pakistan. According to the history, Peshawar is the meeting point of the Central Asia and subcontinent. It comes it's name from a Sanskrit word Pushpapura, meaning city of flowers.After that The Moghul Emperor Babar even mentioned the flowers of Peshawar in his memoirs.

Peshawar is also called the land of Pathans or Pushtoon, Therefore Peshawar's has the historical records because some 2000 or 3000 years ago, when Kushans were reigning the area. Kushans shifted their capital to Peshawar from Pushkalavati, which is 30 kilometres north of Peshawar. After this later Sher Shah Suri ruled the area. In 1818, the Sikh ruler Ranjit Singh captured Peshawar. During his rule Peshawar met little progress and the city was destroyed. The British recreate the city before the independence of Pakistan.

Another feature of Peshawar is that Peshawar linked to almost all major cities and towns of Pakistan by air. Besides this Peshawar is linked even to Europe or Dubai. The national railway system it is the last stop for peoples. The Bus services run between Peshawar and Lahore and other major cities. The city can be reached by easily to use own transport.

Peshawar can easily be divided into old Peshawar and new Peshawar.The old city is easily attracts the peoples because the city has a number of beautiful Memorial or monuments and colorful bazaars.

Memorial Places

MOHABAT KHAN MOSQUE built in 1670 it is a good example of the Mughal architecture engineer. However the mosque was destroyed by fire 1898 it was later restored with the help of traditional Mechanic or craftsmen.

BALA HISSAR It is difficult to miss Bala Hisaar Fort. The structure was built by the first Mughal ruler Babar in 1526.

PESHAWAR MUSEUM It is well popular place of Peshawar and also known as Victoria Memorial hall the museum was built in 1905.

SHAHI BAGH It is the historical park because quaid-e-azam mohammad ali jinnah also visited to this park and another feature of this park is that cricket ground also here.

TATARA PARK It is the famous and popular park in the area of hayatabad.It is a small but beautiful public park of Hayatabad Peshawar.The small train that runs on the railway track round the boundaries of the park. Where both children and their elders come nice place to hang on the weekends.
